3. Type C waterproofing Systems
Type C waterproofing is defined in BS 8102: 2009 as ‘drained protection’ which is achieved by the incorporation of a drained cavity within the basement structure. The basement wall must provide enough primary resistance to water ingress to ensure the cavity only accepts a controlled amount of water or dampness. Water is collected in the cavity between the external wall and an internal lining (cavity drain membrane) and diverted to a suitable drainage point.

From a waterproof chemical treatment being added into the concrete to make it more effective to a non-soluble crystalline formation that seals the concrete to avoid penetration, this helps to add structural integrity and improve the lifespan of the building itself.
- Drained Protection. Sometimes, the best solution for getting rid of water is to use a drained protection system. This utilizes a drained cavity within the basement, making sure that the walls offer excellent resistance to water excess, ensuring that they only hold a controlled and very specific volume of water. This then directs the water to the correct drainage point, allowing for blockages and excess water to be emptied without any problems.
